Create a media room

Burleigh modular sofa in a media room

By Karen Roach, Interior Design Consultant at the Manchester showroom

If space allows, a room dedicated to watching television is a wonderful luxury and will be a busy and popular place for family and friends.

Create a fun and modern atmosphere by introducing a bright, light colour or soft pattern on a modular sofa. Add vibrant accessories and cushions with bold patterns in the same colour palette to give an inviting feel.  A sofa table will give a softer look than a coffee table and can double up as additional seating.  A plain oak TV cabinet will add calm simplicity and provide practical storage to this family friendly room.

How to create a media room

Versatile viewing

The ideal choice of furniture for a media room is a modular sofa that combines the versatility of a chaise longue with the comfort of a conventional sofa, creating a cosy, inviting space for the whole family.

Relax and rewind

For a relaxed, easy living feel, combine a neutral palette with flourishes of colour such as a striking print and quirky lamps or mirrors.

A blend of tradition and technology

A media room need not only be about contemporary design and a big screen.  Create a media room for 'grown ups' by combining soft, natural textures such as leather, wool and kelim with a warm cherrywood TV cabinet  to hide away technology and create a welcoming but smart study feel.
