Damask and Barcelona
, 12 Oct 2007
From a designer’s perspective working on the creation of new collections it is always more interesting when imaginative colours and exciting designs are in fashion. Thankfully after a recent period of minimalism and chic plains it appears that opulent design with vibrant colour and scale are back on the fashion agenda for the home. It’s time to be brave and make a statement with your furniture!
At Linwood we are always looking for inspiration for new collections, whether that comes from clothing fashion, antique textiles or new designers, not to mention the input from our customers and suppliers.
The ‘Damask I’ collection, currently running very successfully with Wesley-Barrell, takes the principle of the classic damask and brings the look up to date with fresh, modern colours and a strong, confident handwriting. Damask weaves have always been an old favourite, so the challenge is to make them relevant today with colour grading ‘ombre effects’ in warp and weft and punchy colours such as charcoal and gold or raspberry and linen. The end result, we hope, are fabrics that can work equally well in a classic interior or in a more modern, contemporary setting.
Also launched in January 2007 the Linwood team created ‘Barcelona’, a larger and expanded collection to include a selection of the damasks teamed with prints, smaller weaves, velvets and plains. The city of Barcelona is fascinating for the juxtaposition of the traditional and the modern – in terms of architecture, culture & style. We had a lot of fun and quite a few headaches finding modern plain & textured fabrics to work with the antique, printed damasks and climbing floral designs.
Colours are fresh and confident and we love our customers to create their own eclectic look from the hundred’s of fabrics on offer!
